Live Butterfly Garden (Review & Giveaway)

A Little Bit About Live Butterfly Garden
Watch them grow then let them go! See one of Nature's greatest miracles right before your eyes with our Oppenheim Best Toy Award-winning butterfly raising kit.
Raise 3 to 5 Painted Lady butterflies while learning all about metamorphosis. See the caterpillars' transition as they mature, change into chrysalides, and finally emerge as Painted Lady butterflies! The butterflies' development takes approximately three weeks, and they're absolutely safe to release into the environment.
The Live Butterfly Garden Kit Includes a colorful pop-up habitat suitable for hanging or free-standing on a countertop, one cup containing 3 to 5 butterfly larvae with special food, feeding kit and complete instructions.
Our Experience with the Live Butterfly Garden
We recently had the pleasure of taking care of and watching  as 5 Painted Lady Butterfly's transformed  from small baby caterpillars into beautiful graceful butterfly's over a two and a half week time span. The caterpillars arrived in a sealed container as pictured above ( ventilated well ) with enough food right in the bottom of the container to feed the family of five through this stage. We enjoyed watching them grow from tiny baby caterpillars. As they grew larger, they attached themselves to the paper disk in the top of the cup, and thus began their transformation.

We removed the paper disk gently and placed it (with a safety pin) inside of the included habitat, and watched and waited. We were very lucky to catch the emergence of the first Painted Lady! We were on the computer next to the bookcase where the habitat rested as it was "born". We watched in awe throughout the day as each creature emerged as a beautiful butterfly, my children were amazed as was I, at the transformation and the process in it's totality. We gathered flower's from outdoors and placed them in a small bud vase at the bottom of the habitat sprinkling droplets of water for them to drink (this mimics the dew in their natural environment). After watching for a full day, we released them and watched as they flew away. The princess named them, and said goodbye cordially "bye-bye Sophie" and so on...as each flew away (how cute? :). It was  not only an educational experience for us, it was a lesson in compassion and caring for my children as well. We will be ordering another "family" of five soon, so that we can watch and experience this awe inspiring process again.
