Spring Cleaning Made Simple: Big Family? Learn How To Clear The Clutter Quick

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Glad. All opinions are 100% mine.

As soon as the new year hit I got an itch to start clearing out the clutter. I know spring isn't quiet here yet, but with four kids in the house, the clutter started closing in on me. Seriously, it was definitely time to reign in the chaos a bit!

Friends, s a seasoned mom of 12+ years now, I've mastered the art of clearing out the clutter, QUICK. I don't have a ton of excess time on my hands, so quick and efficient is always the name of the game around here.

Ready to tidy up, but don't have a ton of time on your hands? Check out my simple spring cleaning tips for clearing out the clutter quick, below.

Spring cleaning made simple: Big family? Clear the clutter quick with these simple tips:
  1.  Gather some simple supplies. Storage totes, color coded stickers, good BIG strong garbage bags like Glad KitchenPro bags, a pen/permanent marker, eco friendly cleaners / paper towels, a washable duster etc.
  2. Clear the clutter room by room and make a game plan that you can stick with. I planned to spend each day for 8 days cleaning out each of the rooms/spaces in my home. I started on the first floor and did one room per day. I did the closets on the first floor and the bathroom on a separate day. Then I moved to the second floor and worked through 1 room each day. I finished by clearing out/tidying up my storage boxes in my attic and basement (setting aside a day for each).
  3. Turn over book shelves. Donate any books that the children have read / outgrown to local schools, libraries, religious organizations, or shelters. Books that are torn/marked in can easily be recycled at your local recycling center .
  4. Turn over wardrobes for each family member. Go through closets and dressers, figure out what fits and what doesn't. Project ahead to next season; will that t shirt / pair of shorts fit in a few months when the warm weather returns? Will that holiday outfit fit next year? Donate or consign all items that  are no longer of use. I set aside all of our donations in a bag with a color coded dot. I know that all bags with green dots, are donations. Which brings me to my next tip.
  5. Label, label, label! Use color coded dots on garbage bags/boxes to set apart donations from trash / recycling. Use dry-erase labels on storage totes to mark the contents ( such as 7 girls summer shirts size M. etc) It's a real time saver, no need to play the guessing game!
  6. Clean and refresh your space. Finish off each of the rooms as you go by giving the furniture a good dusting / all of the surfaces a wipe down with cleaner and thoroughly vacuum before you head on to the next room!

With four kids, two adults and a dog in the house, it never ceases to amaze me how quickly things can become cluttered! It's easy enough to reel in the chaos though. Friends, sometimes I wonder what I'll do with myself when they're all grown up, and I have all of that excess time on my hands? I'll be bored, I'm sure. For now, I'm reveling in the chaos and learning how to wrangle it as I go!

Happy spring cleaning everyone! The warm temps and sunshine are just around the corner - hang tight!

New Glad KitchenPro trash bags are available at Target now. They're perfect for big families that tend to make a bit more trash than other families. They're as strong as outdoor black bags, they offer up added leak protection, and they boast ForceFlex technology (which helps to prevent pesky tears in the bag). I love that they blend in with our stainless steel trashcan, and that they have a lovely Febreze scent, to help prevent unsavory smells for up to 5 days.
