Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments - A Quick & Simple {Super Cute!} Christmas Kids Craft Tutorial

Looking for a cute Christmas craft to do with the kids? These Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments are it! This is such a quick and simple {super cute!} Christmas kids craft; perfect for gifting to friends and family - or for your own Christmas tree. If you're into mess-free kids crafts {and what mom isn't, right?), this easy Christmas craft is definitely the craft for you!

Hi friends, how have you been? Each year, my kids make new DIY ornaments for our Christmas Tree, it's a bit of a tradition around here. It's always fun to look back each year on all of the ornaments that we've made together, when we decorate our tree. Last weekend, we got a jump start on our Christmas crafting, and made these adorable Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments. This is such a quick and simple Christmas craft for kids. These Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments come together in a cinch with a few simple supplies and Kwik Stix {fast drying} solid tempera paint sticks. If your house is anything like mine you might even already have a stray mitten or two {or 20!} on-hand, without a match, that you can easily upcycle for this craft.

Read on for the full supply list and our easy tutorial, to make your own Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments with the kids this holiday season.

Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments How-To

What you'll need:

  • Kwik Stix solid tempera paint sticks {these fast-drying kid-safe paints dry in just 90 seconds - they're the best!}
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue {or low-temp hot glues sticks + a glue gun - however if using low-temp hot glue it should only should to be used by an adult}
  • Ribbon {I found the pictured ribbon at A.C. Moore in 1 yard spools - currently 2 for $1}
  • (1) Mitten
  • (1) Mini 4"x4" canvas {I found the pictured canvases at A.C. Moore for a little over $1 ea. - the entire canvas section is currently 70% off. }

How to:

  1. Start by slipping the mitten over the top of your mini canvas. Fold/cuff at the wrist of the mitten. add a dot of craft glue (you can also use a dab of low-temp hot glue - however if you do make sure that this step is done by an adult not a child) on the underside of the mitten to secure to your canvas. Press lightly to secure.
  2. Using scissors, cut the tips off the top of each of the fingers on your mitten.
  3. Gather mitten fingers and tie at the center tightly, with ribbon. Use scissors to cut the ends of the mitten fingers to create a fringe/pom-pom at the top of your snowman's mitten hat.
  4. Slip another small piece of ribbon through your already tied ribbon/bow, at the backside, and tie ends to create a 4"-5" loop for hanging (refer to images below.)
  5. Use Kwik Stix tempera paint sticks to draw on your snowman's eyes, carrot nose, and smile.
  6. Allow 90 seconds for the Kwix Stix tempera paint to set/dry.
Hang your completed Mini Canvas Snowman Ornaments on your tree, or gift them to someone special this holiday season!
