Mini Canvas Angel Ornaments

These mini canvas Angel ornaments make the perfect DIY handmade gifts for the holiday season, and they're super simple for young children to put together. If you're on the hunt for an easy kids Christmas craft that results in an adorable keepsake, this is it!

We've been making homemade holiday ornaments with our kids, for as long as I can remember! It's such a fun tradition. Plus, it's so incredibly sweet to look back at all of the ornaments that we've made, and revisit the memories of making them, as we put up our Christmas tree every year. This holiday season is no different, and we've already started making some new ornaments to add to our collection (including some of these adorable Mini Canvas Angel Ornaments!)

This year, as we head into the holiday season, I would really like to focus on spending quality time with my husband and my kids, and on giving back to others. While I was talking to my older daughter a few weeks ago, brainstorming some new ideas about how we can give back, she pointed to a large container of scrap craft materials. She said,"how about using all of the craft scraps?" Friends, we tend to amass a large amount of scrap craft supplies/materials throughout the year, and I usually just toss them in a big tote. Sometimes we reuse some of the scrap materials in other crafts however, they tend to pile up fairly quick. Her idea? Is to use the scrap material to make a variety of crafty ornaments and holiday crafts, and sell them at our local holiday craft fair. Then, donate all of the profits to a local food bank. My response? YES! Yes, of course, absolutely, YES! Selfishly, I know that putting together these  crafts with my older daughter will add up to a ton of quality time with her in the evenings. I just love her idea, and I love her heart for others. These Mini Canvas Angel Ornaments make a cute addition to the top of a holiday package, or as a fun handmade holiday gift from the kids. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks, as we share some of our little DIY holiday ornaments and handmade holiday gifts; all made from craft scraps and put to use for GOOD
this holiday season!

  • Lace ribbon (the pictured lace ribbon was found at Dollar Tree.)
  • Clear thread (to create a hanger for your Mini Canvas Angel Ornaments.)
How to:

  1. Using paint and a paint brush, paint your angels on your mini canvas. We created a face on the top half, and made her dress / praying hands on the bottom half of the mini canvas. Once complete, set to the side and allow adequate time for the paint to dry.
  2. Once your paint has dried, using a few dabs of hot glue, secure your lace ribbon at the top edge of your mini canvas.
  3. Next, add a piece of gold or silver ribbon to the top center of the lace ribbon, using a few dabs of hot glue (refer to imagery above and below) to create a halo for your Mini Canvas Angel.
  4. To complete your Mini Canvas Angel Ornament, create the wings. If using wire ribbon, make a bow (refer to imagery above and below.) Tie the bow off at the center using a 12" piece of clear thread. Knot clear thread at the top to create a hanger. If using raffia, bundle the raffia, then tie it off at the center using a 12" piece of clear thread. Affix your ribbon bow wings or raffia bundle wings to the back center of your mini canvas using a large generous dot of low-temp hot glue (hold in-place until the glue has dried.
