Scrap Ribbon Tree Ornaments - Super Simple DIY Craft For Kids To Make & Gift This Holiday

Looking for a fun and simple holiday craft to do with the kids this holiday season? Make these adorable {rustic} Scrap Ribbon Tree Ornaments!

I love to craft a new ornament or two with my children each year, to add to our tree. It's so much fun to look back each year on all of the ornaments that we've made together, as we decorate our Christmas tree.

These ornaments are easy to assemble, and only require a few simple supplies. They make great keepsake ornaments and adorable homemade gifts from the kids.

Check out the supply list and our simple image tutorial on how to make DIY scrap ribbon tree ornaments with the kids this holiday season, below.

What you'll need:
  • Quilting/fabric scissors
  • Small twigs/tree branches (cut to about 6 inches in length)
  • Green scrap ribbon (in various shades), and other seasonal scrap ribbon - cut to about 6 inches in length for easy tying
  • Twine (to create hanger)
  • Optional: Small wooden star embellishments + heavy craft glue (or wood glue) for affixing wood stars

How to:
  1. Tie scrap ribbons (in varying colors/ patterns around your pre-cut twig/branch. Leave about 1 1/2 inches of twig/branch visible at the bottom, for the "trunk" of the tree ornament.
  2. Use quilting/fabric scissors (with heavy adult supervision for children or with an adults help for small children) to cut your tied ribbons to "graduating lengths on your ornament (i.e. longer at the bottom and gradually getting smaller to the tip/top of your tree ornament). When finished trimming the ribbon, your "tree" ornament should be shaped like a triangle (refer to image below).
  3. Optional: Use heavy craft glue or wood glue (with heavy adult supervision or assistance from an adult) to attach your wooden star embellishment to the top of your scrap ribbon tree ornament.
  4. Wrap twine around the top of your ornament a few times and tie a loop, for hanging your ornament. Add your completed ornament to the tree, or wrap it up in tissue paper with ribbon and gift it to someone special this holiday!

Happy crafting & Happy Holidays!

  3. Looks awesome! I wish I was as crafty as you are... It's already a struggle for me to wrap oddly shaped gifts... I personally make it a point to buy gifts that come in boxes! :)
