Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake - Fun Toddler Gift Idea!

Play-Doh! Friends, I think it's safe to say that my toddler is officially obsessed with the stuff. She recently celebrated her 2nd birthday, and this fun Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake was definitely a BIG HIT!

For me, half the fun in gift-giving, is in the presentation. This is such a fun way to present all of these fun Play dough supplies as a gift for toddlers, and it's incredibly easy to assemble too. With a few simple supplies, this 4 tier Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake came together in about 15 minutes. It's a great under $15 birthday gift idea for toddlers. My daughter was so in love with her Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake, she barely noticed all of the other fun goodies that we got her. This was definitely the hit of the party; total mom-win!

Read on for the full supply list and easy tutorial, to make your own Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake!

My inspiration for this Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake? Diaper Cakes! I've made more than a few diaper cakes in my day! A Mickey Mouse Shaped Diaper Cake, a Toddler Potty Training Pull-Ups Cake, Floating Diaper Flower Arrangements … the list really goes on and on. They are always so fun to assemble, and they're incredibly well-received gift ideas. SO, as I was thinking of gift ideas for my youngest daughter a few weeks ago, I thought, why not make a "gift" cake, comprised of some of the items that she loves? And what does she love? Play-Doh! Since this was such a big hit, I just wound up making another gift cake comprised of some fun items for my tween niece (I have a post on that, coming soon!) Ready to make a Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake, for the toddler in your life?

What you'll need:
  • A pencil
  • Scissors
  • A utility knife
  • (1) large piece of White foam board / craft board / or heavy corrugated cardboard (I found the white foam board that I used at the Dollar store.
  • Ribbon
  • Glue Dots or double-sided tape
Play-Doh (I used 9 3oz. cans of Play-Doh in assorted colors and a Play-Doh Party Bag of 15 mini cans of Play-Doh in assorted colors for the Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake pictured.)
  • A Playdough Activity Bucket (found in the same section as the Play-Doh, in most big-box stores.)

How to:
  1. Start by creating your "cake rounds" for your Play-Doh supplies gift cake. I wanted 3 rounds to build/support my gift cake, so I traced 3 different sized plates.
  2. Using a utility knife or craft knife, cut your foam board "cake rounds."
  3. Once complete, starting with the largest round, place Glue Dots or double-sided tape all along the perimeter of the top-side of the "cake round."
  4. Now, arrange your larger (3oz.) cans of Play-Doh around the perimeter / edge of the round that you've placed the double-sided tape/Glue Dots on. Press each can firmly, to ensure that each Play-Doh can is secured / affixed well.
  5. Grab your next (smaller in size) "cake round." Place Glue Dots or double-sided tape all around the underside edge / perimeter. When complete press the bottom-side to the top-side / lids of the base round of Play-Doh cans.
  6. Next, place Glue Dots or double-sided tape all along the perimeter of the top-side of the medium"cake round." Arrange 10 of the small / mini cans of Play-Doh (from the party pack) around the perimeter / edge of the "cake round."Press each can firmly, to ensure that each Play-Doh can is secured / affixed well.
  7. Grab your last (smallest in size) "cake round." Place Glue Dots or double-sided tape all around the underside edge / perimeter. When complete press the bottom-side to the top-side / lids of the medium / second round of mini Play-Doh cans.
  8. Now, place Glue Dots or double-sided tape all along the perimeter of the top-side of the last "cake round." Press the underside of the small Play-Doh activity bucket, to secure / affix to the perimeter of the round.
  9. When the Play-Doh activity bucket is secured / in-place, add a few Glue-Dots / double-sided tape to the lid of the bucket. Place 4 mini Play-Doh cans atop the lid, press each mini Play-Doh can to secure/ affix it in-place. Add a few Glue Dots / double-sided tape to the underside perimeter of the last mini can of Play-Doh. Place it atop the center of the 4 previously placed mini-cans of Play-Doh. Press it to secure/affix it in-place.
  10. To complete your Play-Doh Gift Supplies Cake, wrap wide ribbon around each "layer" of your gift cake to hide the cardboard / craft board cake rounds, and make to make your gift cake look more complete / gift-ready.
Gift your completed Play-Doh Supplies Gift Cake to a special toddler in your life!

Happy crafting, friends!
